Common  Sense
Picture
When I was a young teenager, I couldn't figure out how Noah got all those animals in the ark with enough food to feed everybody for a year.  How did the polar bears survive the heat and the long trip? How did the plants and trees survive? What about all the insects? How did we end up with different nationalities and languages out of Noah's family?  Nope, this story just didn't make sense to me, yet the Sunday School teacher said it was important to believe in God's Word, "just take it on faith".

These common sense questions with no common sense answers eventually led me to lose faith in the Bible, and the people in the church. Thank God He had patience with me as well as the power to open my eyes.  I suspect something similar may have happened to many of you. Thank God you haven't given up searching for His truth.

Many people feel that the Bible is God's Holy word and is true and accurate just as it is and should never be thought to be in error. Some go so far as to think it is a sin against God.  The problem with that line of reasoning is that man translated our English Bible's from other languages which was also hand written by man (no computers). So there is a lot of room for errors which Bible scholars are well aware. Then you have people like King James who have their own agenda for making the Bible say what they want it to say, then add the way words themselves change meaning and it is a miracle we can learn anything from the Scriptures at all!

Don't get me wrong, I love the Bible. I just want to be as sure as I can be that what I am reading is what God intended for me. If that means I have to spend time double checking the words to be sure I understand, so be it. It is worth it!

When we come across Scripture that defies reason, logic and common sense, it is time to take a real good look at the translations for errors, then compare other places in the Bible where the same story may be told. By carefully examining word meanings, we can get to the bottom of a lot of problems.

If you haven't done a deep Bible study before, we suggest you take a few minutes to become familiar with your study tools. If you don't have a Strong's or Young's Concordance, you may want to become familiar with the computer App, Bible Hub or other on line Bible Study aids. We mentioned it on the study tools page.
The first lesson,  "How to Use the Strong's Concordance" found under the tab Study Tools is a great place to start. If you are  already familiar with the Bible stories, you may be ready for the "Nuggets of Truth Bible Studies" my husband, Bob is sharing.

The Bible is the story of God's special relationship with a certain family that eventually became known as the tribe of Israel or the Israelites. This family started out with Adam. His entire family geneology is recorded, culminating in the birth of Jesus.  This is rather amazing since no other family tree was so carefully recorded. God has a special plan He is carrying out with Jesus Christ now reigning as King of Kings, just like God said He would. He has a special plan for US  - YOU and ME as well!
